LYSAGHT^® 360 SEAM^™

Located about 500 kilometers away from Bangkok, the Udon Thani Museum serves locals as a center for cultural heritage, history, archaeology, art, culture and tradition. It also has a section to commemorate the founder of Udon Thani, Krommaluang Prachaksinlapakhom.

When Hed Design Studio was tasked to build a service center, their vision was a structure that looks modern, yet would not look out of place next to this 2-storey Neo-Palladian building built in 1920.

The steel exterior of this building is a work of art on its own in terms of aesthetic and engineering. It came in an earthy hue of bronze, a nod to the renowned Bronze age archaeological site of Ban Chiang in the same province. Beneath that stencilled Mee Khit Line Somdet geometric pattern is 2 more layers of wall for strength and insulation.

When commissioned to build the roof, the requirement was for it to look like the walls in terms of colour and provide adequate heat and noise protection.

The Lysaght Solution

Lysaght Thailand picked COLORBOND^® Steel in International Brown for a more cohesive overall colour scheme. The product was used in the form of full LYSAGHT^® 360 SEAM^TM profile for acoustic protection. It clocked in at an impressive Sound Transmission Class rating of 51.

This profile was selected because its bold and widely spaced ribs blend well with the geometric patterns on the wall. The result is a modern, angular looking building with a historical flavour. The 800m² roof took 3 months to complete.

For a prominent application such as the service center, aesthetics rank high on the list when it comes to picking the profile. The 360^® Seam^TM Series is versatile enough to indulge almost any architect, yet strong and light enough to protect the occupants of the structure. Because of the mechanical seaming process, it’s completely watertight, making it the best choice for Thailand’s climate.

COLORBOND^® Steel

In tropical climates, thermal efficiency counts greatly when it comes to roofing. Apart from using lighter colours, COLORBOND^® steel features Thermatech^® solar reflectance technology. For a public place like Udon Thani Museum Service Center, this could mean significant savings in terms of energy bills.
