The existing station has started operation since Q1 1990 which was part of East-West Line and subsequently connected to North-South Line. Thereafter, Jurong East MRT station has become an interchange station for commuters travelling between these two lines.
As the population grows over the years, there is a need to modify this interchange to cater to the high commuter volume. It was then announced by Ministry of Transport that the station will undergo a modification project that will involve the construction of two new platforms and a new track at Jurong East MRT station.
The modification project was completed and handover to the operator in Q1 2011 and commenced operation in May 2011.
More than two decades back, the construction of the existing station has already applied with LYSAGHT® KLIP-LOK® 406. Till date, the existing roofing sheet still functions and thereby LYSAGHT® KLIP-LOK® 406 was called in for the extension.
