An Urban Escapade for Bruneians
The Promenade Samakaya was designed with the idea of creating a lively and urban realm for those who visited. This open-air concept shopping mall is Brunei’s first conceptual shopping complex that encompassed a six-block project inclusive of a commercial and residential complex, a promenade, restaurants and supermarket.
The highlight of the building’s design is the promenade’s V-shaped roof which promoted natural ventilation for energy-efficiency and at the same time, capable of deflecting direct sunlight. This would mean that all who visited the promenade would be able to move within the complex in comfort, enhancing their experience within the mall.
COLORBOND® steel is chosen for the building. Its THERMATECH® solar reflectance technology is able to absorb least heat from the sun compared to conventional paint, ultimately lowering the heat transmitted through the roof into the living space and creating optimal thermal comfort for all users.
One of the requirements of the building roof’s design was to obtain a ‘flat’ roof while ensuring water would be able to drain from the low slope roof. The choice of using LYSAGHT® KLIP-LOK®406 meant that the roof would have exceptional waterproofing characteristics besides being held up by strong, durable, versatile, long spanning, concealed-fix roof cladding. The smart fluted pans and lock-action rib design allows the metal cladding to be used on a low-pitched roof, which suited this design perfectly.
Moreover, the KLIP-LOK®406 is quick and easy to install as it is effortless to align with its clips, therefore effectively saving construction time and money.
The Promenade Samakaya, with its protective and thoughtfully designed roof, continues to stand as Brunei’s popular shopping and recreational destination.
The new Kota Kinabalu High Court Complex was built to mirror its representation of individuality, as well as national recognition.
One of the landmark developments that is included in SCORE’s (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy) blueprint for infrastructure, industrial and socio-economic development, pushing Mukah towards being a ‘smart city’.
With a rich architectural culture that celebrates skilled craftmanship with intricate design, it was only natural that the building should reflect its heritage.
