To accommodate the growing number of students enrolling in religious studies, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Brunei has commissioned the construction of Sekolah Menengah Arab Kampung Rimba at Rimba, a subdistrict of Brunei-Muara District.

Construction started in 2014, together with another religious school in Kampung Katok. Before that, the country has 7 religious schools. The first, Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hassanal Bolkiah (SMALHB) was built back in 1964.

With a capacity of 2,000 students, the school comes with classrooms, science laboratories, language laboratories, lecture halls, multi-purpose halls, teachers’ room, library, surau, canteen and grandstand field. In terms of security, the premise is closely monitored by safety devices.

Sitting in front of an expansive and neatly manicured lawn, the school greets visitors with a majestic façade and wide driveway. As befitting of a religious institution, the frontage of the building is an intricate and beautiful display of traditional Islamic monarchy motifs.

The building is designed by architecture firm, Arkitek Opfis with a construction budget of 48 million Brunei Dollars. The challenge was to complete the project within the stipulated time frame. In this case, it took slightly more than 4 years.

The colours of normal coil-coated products change due to the weather and atmospheric dirt pickup. As such, discolouration is more obvious on light colours compared to dark colours. In some cases, atmospheric dirt even engrains onto paint surfaces, making it more difficult to remove.

For the punishing tropical weather of Brunei, CLEAN COLORBOND^® ULTRA prepainted steel was chosen for long term durability and exceptional corrosion resistance. The product comes into its own when comparisons show that the appearance change is a fraction of normal coil-coated products.

The application of CLEAN COLORBOND^® ULTRA steel at Sekolah Menengah Arab Kampung Rimba comes in the form LYSAGHT^® LOCKED SEAM^® and LYSAGHT^® SPANDEK^® profile. The specially designed height of the standing seam contributes to the modernity, lightness and regularity that the project requires.

NS BlueScope Lysaght Brunei has achieved 2 feats with this project. The roofing area(with the locked seam profile) is the largest the firm has ever supplied for a single project. Also, the newly registered Blossom Green CLEAN COLORBOND^® ULTRA matches the architect specified RAL Code of 6027 perfectly.
