The Mukah Sports Complex stands proud as the one of the landmark developments that is included in SCORE’s (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy) blueprint for infrastructure, industrial and socio-economic development, pushing Mukah towards being a ‘smart city’.

It is a sports complex that houses facilities laid out over 50 acres of land, including outdoor and indoor stadiums, outdoor games courts, a 400m IAAF-certified running track and a football field for track and field events.

To house more than 700 sports fans and spectators, the grandstand played a pivotal part in sheltering and shading spectators from the harsh and humid weather while providing an unobstructed view of the field.

The conceptualization stage of the design faced multiple challenges. It had to be modern, aesthetically pleasing and structurally-sound. Moreover, the grandstand was susceptible to unpredictable weather conditions such as the harsh sunlight, heavy rainfall and increasing wind velocity, due to the town facing the South China Sea. This creates a highly corrosive environment due to the salty winds.

LYSAGHT^® PRESTIGE PANEL^® II, a versatile cladding profile with concealed fastening was chosen as ceiling panel applications to provide a clean and sleek look and shape. The panels utilised COLORBOND^® steel to produce the flat profile, which has superior performance in all-weather conditions and corrosive environment, effectively establishing a strong-structured grandstand for the Mukah Sports Complex.
