NS BlueScope Lysaght secured the contract to supply the redevelopment of Malaysia’s fourth-largest airport, the Kuching International Airport in the state of Sarawak.
The RM620 million redevelopment of the Kuching International Airport will increase airside capacity to at least 20 aircraft per hour and the expanded airport would have state-of-the-art facilities. Facility upgrades include the upsizing of the terminal building as well as the building of a new fire brigade station, a new meteorological building and more arrow bridges.
Kuching International Airport is the fourth busiest airport in the country. In 2010, it handled 3,684,000 passengers with a corresponding volume of 46,382 flights. LYSAGHT® BONDEK® II was chosen for the project because of its durability and ease of installation. The building solution will be used to convert an open space in the terminal building into three storeys of floor space. LYSAGHT® BONDEK® II has also made it possible to easily convert some voids in the building into floor space. Initially due for completion in 2008, the renovation works to increase terminal building floor space to 46,000sq.m were completed 15 months ahead of schedule.
Located at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, or more often referred as Subang Skypark Terminal, the aircraft Hangar of Berjaya Air was a Design and Build project by BlueScope Lysaght and its affiliate, BlueScope PEB Sdn Bhd.
