Sorong, also known as ‘Kota Minyak’ or ‘Oil City’, since the arrival of Dutch oil surveyor in 1908, is the gate to Papua Island and the entry point for anyone visiting the exotic tourism destination ‘Raja Ampat’.

Domine Eduardo Osok (DEO) Airport is the largest and busiest airport on the Bird’s Head Peninsula, located 8 km from the city of Sorong. The airport started its operation in 2004, constructed as a replacement to the older and smaller Jeffman airport, which was a former world war II airfield on the island of Jeffman.

In 2014, as part of the airport development program, The Office of Transportation Service started the construction of a new terminal. Designed by Indrakila Architect, the new terminal displays an elegant convex concave curved roof. To produce roofing solutions for a large scale project is not the most difficult part, but making it curved accurately to fit the structure can be quite a daunting task. More so when the project is in the far eastern part of Indonesia where logistics coordination can be a challenge.

The Lysaght Solution

To fit the unique needs of this project, NS BlueScope Lysaght Indonesia provided LYSAGHT® FLEX-LOK™ 0.60 mm TCT (0.55 mm BMT) COLORBOND®XRW Sonata Blue as the roofing solutions. Its capability to curve in both convex and concave makes it a perfect choice.

With LYSAGHT® Mobile Rollforming, the contractor has no need to worry about defects due to accidental damage from material delivery. With the machine brought to the site, each roof sheets are guaranteed to arrive at the location in good shape the second they came out of the machine.
